Using the right code
Use the SWIFT code shown on the recipient's invoice or account letter. Banks can publish separate codes for branches, currencies or business units. Before the first payment to a new supplier, confirm the account details by phone or a second email; fraudsters often send changed bank details from look-alike email addresses.
Banks in Mexico also publish these local identifiers: Banorte asks for the beneficiary's name and account number (or CLABE interbancaria, the 18-digit standardized account number) as shown on the statement; Final beneficiary account: Cuenta CLABE en Banco del Bajío, the 18-digit account number denominated CLABE; Give the 18-digit CLABE to receive international transfers; Mexico does not use IBAN, and Mexican banks do not use US ABA routing numbers.
