How to receive USD in Saudi Arabia

To receive US dollars in Saudi Arabia, give the payer the IBAN of a USD currency account at a Saudi bank, which payers fund by SWIFT wire, or US account details from a provider that accepts Saudi businesses, which US payers fund by ACH. SAMA fixes the riyal at 3.75 to the dollar and there is no limitation on the inflow or outflow of funds, so there is no deadline to bring dollars home or sell them. This guide covers the rules, routes, payer details, arrival times, published fees and platforms.

How to receive USD in Saudi Arabia: the short answer

Saudi companies earn US dollars from buyers and clients abroad: petrochemical, plastics and food exporters, contractors and engineering firms, software and consulting companies, and freelancers working for foreign clients. Each needs to tell the payer where to send the money.

There are three main routes. A US dollar currency account at a Saudi bank receives an international wire by SWIFT, the network banks use to send cross-border payments. US account details, a routing and account number from a provider that accepts Saudi businesses, let a US client pay by ACH, the low-cost US domestic bank transfer system. And payment platforms collect into a platform balance, which you then withdraw to a Saudi bank.

Saudi rules are open. The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) fixes the riyal at 3.75 to the dollar, and the US government's Country Commercial Guide states that there is no limitation on the inflow or outflow of funds. There is no deadline to bring dollars home and no requirement to sell them for riyals, so the choice is commercial: what each route costs, how fast money arrives, and how your clients prefer to pay. For the account side of the question, see our guide to a USD business account in Saudi Arabia.

SAMA rules on money received from abroad

Two facts shape any dollar receipt in Saudi Arabia: the fixed exchange rate and the free movement of funds. The table summarizes them with the other points that matter to anyone paid from abroad.

AreaWhat applies in Saudi ArabiaWhat it means in practice
Exchange rateFixed by SAMA at 3.75 riyals per US dollar; SAMA has stated its commitment to maintaining itLittle currency risk in holding dollars against riyal costs
Inflows and outflowsNo limitation on the inflow or outflow of fundsDollars can be received, held and sent abroad without exchange control forms
Repatriation and conversionNo deadline or sale requirement in the sources citedProceeds can stay in dollars, at home or abroad
CashBulk cash above SAR 60,000 must be declared at entry or exit pointsApplies to physical cash, not to bank transfers
Payment servicesOperating a payment system or providing regulated payment services in the Kingdom requires SAMA authorizationUse banks and payment providers authorized for the service
Common payment termsOpen account and letters of credit are among the most common methods of paymentLetter of credit proceeds arrive by SWIFT into a Saudi bank

The peg fixes the reference rate, not the rate a bank gives you. When you convert dollars to riyals, compare the bank's rate with 3.75 to see the margin you pay. A letter of credit is a bank's promise to pay the seller once the shipping documents match the terms.

What a Saudi company does meet is the bank's own due diligence: banks ask who the payer is, what the payment is for, and for documents on new or large flows. Because there is no repatriation rule, a Saudi company can collect from US clients into an account abroad and move to Saudi Arabia only what it needs. That is not the case in countries such as Nigeria or Türkiye, where export proceeds must be brought home.

Fedwire is the Federal Reserve's real-time system for US dollar payments, used for large or urgent amounts. A correspondent bank is a bank that holds an account for another bank and settles payments in its currency, usually in New York for US dollars. A Saudi bank account has no US routing number, the nine-digit code that identifies a bank in the United States, so a US client cannot pay it by ACH.

Saudi banks open currency accounts for companies that already hold a current account. Riyad Bank, for example, describes its business currency account as available in USD, euro, yen and pound sterling, and states that it lets customers make and receive foreign currency payments without converting to riyals.

What to give the payer

Send each client one set of details, in writing, and ask its accounts team to save them as a vendor record. Incomplete details are the main reason wires are delayed or returned.

An IBAN is the International Bank Account Number, a standard format that identifies an account across borders. A dollar payment sent to the riyal IBAN may be converted on arrival at the bank's rate, so always give the USD account. OUR, SHA and BEN are SWIFT charge codes. OUR means the sender pays all fees and the full amount arrives. SHA means the fees are shared, so intermediary banks can deduct theirs from the amount in transit. BEN means the receiver pays all fees. Agree OUR in the contract, or build the expected deductions into your price. Our guide on how to receive USD from overseas buyers shows a full invoice layout.

How long a USD payment takes to arrive

Arrival time depends mainly on the rail the client uses.

RailPublished timingWhat affects it
ACH to US account detailsAbout 80% of ACH volume settles in one banking day or less; Same Day ACH accepts payments up to $1 million eachClient's bank cut-off and whether it sends Same Day ACH
Fedwire to US account detailsReal-time gross settlement, final once processed; the Fedwire business day runs 9:00 p.m. ET the previous day to 7:00 p.m. ET, Monday to FridayUS holidays and the client's bank hours
SWIFT wire to a Saudi bankDepends on the correspondent chain and the receiving bank's checksCorrespondent checks, incomplete details, US and Saudi holidays and working days
Platform paymentSet by the platformPlatform's own payout schedule

Sources: Nacha, significant majority of ACH payments settle in one business day or less (28 August 2023); Federal Reserve, About the Fedwire Funds Service. As published on 29 October 2026.

Real-time gross settlement means each payment settles individually as it is processed. Riyadh is 7 or 8 hours ahead of New York, so a Fedwire sent in a US afternoon lands after the Saudi working day has ended. Saudi and US banks also keep different working weeks, so check your bank's working days when you promise a supplier a payment date. For a SWIFT wire, ask the client for the SWIFT confirmation once it is sent, so your bank can trace the payment if it does not arrive.

What it costs: published fees

A dollar receipt can carry three charges: the client's bank fee, correspondent deductions on the way, and your own bank's or provider's charge. The table shows published charges. Other banks set their own.

Provider and itemPublished charge
BNP Paribas, Saudi Arabia branch: incoming international transferSAR 55, plus correspondent bank charges
BNP Paribas, Saudi Arabia branch: outgoing international transfer, manual inputSAR 100, plus correspondent bank charges
Payoneer: receiving into a non-local-currency receiving account1%, minimum $1
Payoneer: client pays a payment request by US ACH bank debit1%
Payoneer: withdrawal to a bank account, in the local currency or with conversion1.2% to 4%
Payoneer: annual account fee$29.95, only if the account receives less than $6,000 in any 12 consecutive months

Sources: BNP Paribas, Saudi Arabia branch, tariff (July 2026); Payoneer fees page (last updated 1 January 2026). As published on 29 October 2026. BNP Paribas prices exclude VAT. Payoneer states that fees depend on sender and recipient locations, payment method and currencies.

At 3.75, the BNP Paribas inbound charge of SAR 55 is about US$14.67 per wire, before VAT and correspondent charges. Two costs sit outside every tariff. The first is the rate when dollars become riyals: compare the bank's rate with 3.75, because a margin of 0.5% costs $50 on every $10,000 converted. The second is correspondent deductions on SHA wires. Riyad Bank's currency account page does not publish fees or minimum balances, so ask your bank for its current tariff.

Wise, Payoneer and other platforms

The table records what each provider's own page states about Saudi Arabia, as published on 29 October 2026. Lists change, so check again before applying.

Before choosing a provider, check whether the account details are in your own name or belong to a pooled account in the provider's name, which rails they accept, and what it costs to move dollars to your Saudi bank.

Stablecoins

Some foreign clients offer to pay in USDC or USDT, digital tokens designed to hold a steady value of one US dollar. A February 2026 review by the law firm Zamakhchary and Co states that Saudi regulators have said virtual currencies are not approved as official currency, that Saudi Arabia does not currently operate a standalone, comprehensive licensing regime for retail virtual asset service providers, and that licensed banks and payment service providers do not support onshore crypto exchange or payment functionality. Take legal advice before accepting stablecoins, and invoice in dollars.

Freelancers and small firms

Freelancers in Saudi Arabia paid from abroad have the same routes on a smaller scale: a USD account at a Saudi bank, a platform with US account details where one accepts Saudi residents, or a platform balance withdrawn to a local bank. Wise lists Saudi Arabia among the countries where customers can hold money, so check its sign-up for your profile type.

Give payers the USD account rather than the riyal account, so each payment is not converted on arrival. Because the riyal is fixed at 3.75, holding dollars carries little currency risk, so a freelancer can convert when it suits rather than on every receipt. Keep contracts and invoices for each client, because banks may ask about large or frequent inward payments.

A freelancer who grows into a firm should register a company and move client payments to an account in the company's name, so contracts, invoices and the account all carry the same name.

Where a Helm account fits

Helm serves companies registered in Saudi Arabia. Helm is a financial technology company, not a bank, and accounts are held with regulated partner institutions. A Helm account gives your company USD account details in its own name: a routing and account number that receives ACH, Fedwire and SWIFT, so a US client pays you as it pays a domestic supplier. It sits beside the Saudi bank account, not instead of it.

  • Collect and hold. Collections from clients and buyers abroad are held in USD or converted. Because the Country Commercial Guide states there is no limitation on the inflow or outflow of funds, nothing in the sources cited requires proceeds held in a Helm account to be brought home by a deadline.
  • Pay suppliers. International payments go by SWIFT, or by local rails in the supplier's currency where available, with the rate, fee and expected arrival shown before you send. See our guide on paying Chinese suppliers from Saudi Arabia.
  • Stablecoins. Helm accounts can receive USDC and USDT and convert them to USD inside the account; given the position above, take advice before using that feature.

A named account manager answers review questions in writing within one business day, and trade finance, including receivables finance, is arranged case by case. Helm agrees pricing with each business in writing before the account opens, and shows the rate, the fee and the expected arrival before you confirm each payment.
